About the Farm
Background
The Smith Family has been farming in Sommers since 1972, with the Jerry Smith Pumpkin Farm founded in 1975. Initially starting with a simple table selling homegrown vegetables, the farm has grown to include a country store and a variety of seasonal activities. Generations of families have visited from across the Midwest, making it a beloved destination. The farm is still owned and operated by the Smith family, who also run Jerry Smith Feed & Seed Station and Jerry Smith Green Acres in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Practices
The farm emphasizes high-quality produce and community engagement. Planting and harvesting practices are designed to offer fresh, homegrown vegetables and fruits. The tradition of painting pumpkins, started by Rosemary Smith, continues to be a hallmark of the farm, showcasing creativity and a connection to popular culture.
The Rest
Visitors can enjoy a variety of seasonal activities including a Sweet Corn fest in August, a pumpkin farm with a corn maze and family-friendly displays in the fall, and a dog-friendly environment during the summer. The farm also offers a weekly crop box with no long-term commitment and has launched a CBD product line called Somers Harvest. The country store opens in mid-June and remains a central feature of the farm experience.
