About the Farm
Background
In 1987, Alvin Kempf moved from Arkansas to Missouri, bringing with him a small walk-in cooler used for processing their own beef and hogs. Living on a dairy farm, the family had a steady supply of red meat. When a local meat processing plant went out of business, Alvin seized the opportunity to upgrade equipment and began processing meat for neighbors. By 1990, the business had grown, necessitating a new shop and additional help. A fire in 2000 led to the rebuilding of the shop with expanded facilities. Keith Shrock, Alvin’s son-in-law, bought the business in 2004 and moved it to its current location. Vernon Kempf, Alvin’s son, took over in 2013, followed by new owners Lyn and Wendy Henderson in 2023. The business has continually expanded its facilities and offerings while maintaining a commitment to quality and cleanliness.
Practices
The business emphasizes custom meat processing, allowing customers to specify how their meat is cut and packaged. They offer 'Custom Exempt' processing services, meaning the meat is labeled 'Not For Sale' and intended for personal use. The facility includes a smokehouse for smoking meats to perfection. Over the years, they have expanded their cold storage capacity and added new processing and retail spaces to better serve their customers.
The Rest
In addition to meat processing, the business offers a wide range of products including pet treats, fresh meats and cheeses, snacks, outdoor furniture, bird houses, wind chimes, and more. They also provide grills, coolers, and various grocery items. The retail area has been expanded to include a cured meat cooler, dry storage warehouse, and more office space. The business is committed to maintaining their beloved recipes while also introducing new options and additional recipes.
