About the Farm

Background

For over 40 years, this family farm has been a cornerstone of organic agriculture in the Pittsburgh region. Known for its direct-to-consumer model, the farm has built a reputation for delivering high-quality organic produce without intermediaries. Founded by Don and Becky, the farm has transitioned to their daughter Maria, who continues the legacy by growing organic apples and producing sparkling hard cider. The farm also supports the community by leasing land, equipment, and infrastructure to those without access to farmland.

Practices

The farm operates on the principle of encouraging life wherever possible, eschewing magic formulas in favor of hands-on, attentive farming. Fertilization is primarily achieved through the farmer's footsteps, emphasizing a close relationship with the land. Inspired by the writings of Louis Bromfield, the farm focuses on long-term soil health and improvement, promoting a diverse and simple operation. The philosophy extends to providing fresh, nutritious, and affordable produce while fostering a local sense of community and supporting meaningful jobs.

The Rest

The farm offers CSA subscription boxes delivered to convenient locations throughout the Pittsburgh area, available in three sizes. Each box includes a weekly newsletter featuring recipes, reflections, and stories from the farmers, keeping customers connected to their food and its origins. Additionally, the farm hosts hard cider tastings and tours, and provides opportunities for long-term leasing of their organically farmed land and facilities.
