About the Farm
Background
Established in 2010, La Semilla Food Center emerged from community garden, youth development, and food system education efforts in southern New Mexico. It stands as the only nonprofit organization solely devoted to fostering a healthy food system in the Paso del Norte region. Since its inception, it has educated thousands of elementary and middle school students on growing and cooking fresh food and has established a 14-acre education and demonstration farm in Anthony, New Mexico.
Practices
La Semilla emphasizes building strong relationships that empower youth and families to grow and cook good food. The organization integrates food, health, and local economies, fostering connections that create positive change. Their educational farm serves as a demonstration site for sustainable agricultural practices and community-based education.
