About the Farm

Background

Located in the rolling sandy hills of southwest Michigan near Niles, Lavender Hill Farm spans 30 acres and has become known for its diverse lavender varieties and heritage breed sheep. The farm offers a range of lavender products, including fresh cut lavender, dried bunches, bath and decorative items, and their own distilled lavender hydrosol and essential oil. Additionally, the farm produces and sells lavender honey from their own beehives.

Practices

Lavender Hill Farm grows several varieties of English lavender and hybrid 'lavandins' on about an acre of their land. They propagate plants from cuttings of their own field-grown lavender varieties, ensuring the quality and authenticity of their plants. The farm also keeps Black Welsh Mountain Sheep, a heritage breed known for its dense black wool, which helps maintain the pasture by preventing overgrowth. The sheep are not bred but are integral to the farm's ecosystem, providing wool suitable for spinning and felting.

The Rest

The farm's gift shop offers a variety of lavender products and is open on advertised days or by appointment. They sell plants starting the first week of May and do not ship plants. Visitors can check their website or Facebook page for shop hours and updates. The farm also sells Black Welsh wool when available.
