About the Farm
Background
Established in 1872, the Liggett Farm has been a family-run operation located in the rolling hills of Southwestern Pennsylvania, situated between the Cross Creek and Buffalo Creek watersheds. Over the years, the farm has developed many of its natural springs to provide fresh water for its growing cattle herd.
Practices
The farm employs a rotational grazing system to maximize pasture grass utilization during the growing season. Approximately half of the 187-acre farm is dedicated to pasture, while the other half is used for growing hay and a few acres of non-GMO corn. The corn fields play a crucial role in crop rotation, weed control, and manure utilization. During the cold winter and calving season, cattle are housed in the barn and fed haylage, dry round bales, and oats straw bedding. The yearlings kept for grassfed beef remain on pasture and are fed haylage until it becomes too cold, at which point they switch to dry round bales.
The Rest
Beef is available by pre-order and sold as whole, half, or split quarter. All beef is processed locally using a dry-aging process. Interested customers are encouraged to call for current prices and to reserve their beef for the year.
