About the Farm

Background

Surrounded by the White River National Forest and located 25 miles east and upriver from Meeker, this farmstead has cultivated a lively flock of Icelandic sheep known for their cold climate hardiness, versatile fleece, and gourmet meat. The farm has gained recognition among chefs for the sweet and mild flavor of its Icelandic lamb.

Practices

The pastures are spring-fed, allowing native grasses and wildflowers to flourish, reaching shoulder height at the peak of summer. The farm's Icelandic sheep are chosen for their adaptability to cold climates and their ability to produce quality breed stock. The chickens, including varied and unusual breeds as well as Norwegian Jaerhons, free-range in the meadows and forest, foraging all day and supplemented with organic, non-GMO whole grains.

The Rest

Raw fleece is available to handspinners and felters, with individual fleece photos posted online. Handspun lopi yarns are also listed on the website. Free-range farm eggs, available between April and October, come in a rainbow of colors and are sold at $5 per dozen. Hatching eggs from the Norwegian Jaerhon flock are available seasonally. Photos of the birds can be requested via email.
