About the Farm
Background
The farm's herd is comprised of LaMancha dairy goats, known for their mild mannered and sweet temperaments. The farm was founded with goats bred by Linda and Paul Garwacki at Bitterblue Farm in Hampden, MA. The herd queen, Velveteen, inspired the farm's name. The farm has been featured in various local publications and supported by organizations such as the Massachusetts Cheese Guild and CISA.
Practices
The goats graze on organically maintained pastures and receive organic grain on the milkstand. The kids stay with their dams all season, with separate sleeping areas overnight. The farm is Grade A Certified by the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources and the processing plant is licensed by the MA Department of Public Health. The herd is never medicated unless directed by a veterinarian for diagnosed illness, and milk from medicated goats is segregated.
The Rest
The farm offers tours and monthly workshops, and visitors can enjoy a picnic area and access to Chestnut Hill trails. The farm store is open from 8-6pm, 7 days a week from April to December, and by appointment in January, February, and March.
