Local Roots CSA

Established in 2011, Local Roots NYC began with Wen-Jay Ying's vision inspired by a conversation with The Flaming Lips' lead singer. Since its first market pickup, it has grown into a grassroots movement that distributes over 60,000 pounds of sustainable produce annually to more than 1,500 New York households.

Local Roots NYC emphasizes regenerative practices such as crop rotation, natural pest management, and water conservation. Their partner farmers avoid hormones and antibiotics, giving animals room to roost and pastures to roam. All produce, meat, and dairy are sourced within a 5-hour drive of New York City.

In 2021, Local Roots NYC opened a Market & Cafe in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, offering just-picked produce, prepared food, sustainable beauty, and home goods. The Cafe serves dishes inspired by Wen-Jay's favorite childhood comfort foods and hosts various community events and workshops.
