About the Farm
Background
In 2018, the founders left California in search of a place to start a farm, driven by a desire to align their lifestyle with their values of loyalty, duty, respect, selflessness, honor, integrity, and personal courage. They learned from organic farms and gardens across the country before establishing their own farm on 50 acres in Tennessee. Their journey led them to become certified in permaculture design and mycology, culminating in the creation of Long Fork Farms.
Practices
The farm employs regenerative agriculture principles, focusing on the critical role of fungi in the ecosystem. All mushrooms are grown in hardwood sawdust, and the farm prioritizes local sales to ensure optimal freshness. The founders believe in the interconnectedness of nature and aim to introduce people to the benefits of mushrooms, both culinary and medicinal.
The Rest
The farm offers tours and foraging events, and produces a variety of products including honey, herbal cheese, herbal tinctures, and small batch home-brewed herbal soda. They grow oyster, king trumpet, lion's mane, and shiitake mushrooms, and provide a range of mushroom tinctures and dried, powdered, and fresh mushrooms. The farm is located in Spencer, Tennessee, near Fall Creek Falls.
