About the Farm

Background

Lexi and Jason transitioned from suburban life to farming out of a desire to responsibly raise safe, nutritious food. They started Longbottom Farm, a small family farm in Scottsville, Virginia, where they live with their three daughters, affectionately called 'farmhands-in-training'. The farm spans 55 acres along the James River and has a history of cattle, pork, wood milling, and crop farming. The couple also works as healthcare practitioners, emphasizing the importance of healthy, locally grown food.

Practices

Longbottom Farm employs management techniques that mimic natural cycles, allowing animals to express their normal behaviors free of cages or chemicals. Chickens are rotated around the farm to fertilize the soil, while cattle graze and enrich the pastures. These practices not only produce nutrient-dense meat and eggs but also rejuvenate the land, following nature's lead and working in harmony with the environment.

The Rest

Longbottom Farm offers website ordering with on-farm pickup and local delivery. They participate in the Charlottesville City Market every Saturday. The farm is committed to transparency and reconnecting people with the source of their food. Visitors are welcome to schedule farm tours and follow their updates on social media.
