About the Farm

Background

Ben Lucero, raised in a farm working family of Native American and Spanish descent, started his first organic farm in the 1960s. Despite early struggles, he found success with the rise of farmers markets. After relocating to Lodi in the late 1990s and later to Clarksburg, the farm expanded under the guidance of Ben's son, Curtis. In 2018, Curtis and his wife Priscilla purchased a 20-acre ranch in Galt, continuing the farm's legacy and expanding operations to include community events. Curtis took sole ownership in 2019, focusing on creating a sustainable, bio-diverse farm.

Practices

The farm employs organic growing methods, certified by Yolo County, and uses drip irrigation, cover crops, and crop rotation to conserve natural resources and replenish soil nutrients. Soil is amended with organic compost, fish emulsion, and cover crops to enrich nitrogen levels. Weed control is managed through machine and hand cultivation, while pest control relies on crop rotation, resistant varieties, hand removal, and habitats for beneficial insects. The farm's philosophy emphasizes biodiversity and ecosystem health.

The Rest

The farm offers farm tours, farm-to-fork dinners, birthday parties, weddings, and a farm stand. Produce not sold at markets is donated to local food banks. The farm's land features natural waterways, permanent habitats, and abundant wildlife.
