About the Farm

Background

Lunaria Gardens operates across several lots in West Philadelphia, combining farmed, foraged, and gleaned flora to create unique floral designs. The business is deeply rooted in the local community, with a mission to celebrate connections with the environment and each other. The founder's background in visual art, agroecology, music, and dance informs the farm's human-scale practices.

Practices

Seeds are started in the Fairmount Horticulture Center greenhouse, branches are pruned from Philadelphia Orchard Project fruit trees, and invasive vines are untangled from nature centers. The farm sources from local farmer collectives and composts clippings to organically feed the gardens. Lunaria Gardens emphasizes biological diversity and reflects the seasonal bounty of the region, while addressing social, economic, and environmental justice issues within the floral industry.

The Rest

A portion of proceeds, products, and volunteer services are donated to local grassroots organizations advancing social and environmental justice. Subsidized rates are available for LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, and activists. Community partnerships include Philadelphia Orchard Project, Soil Generation, Ahimsa House Community Garden, Philadelphia Bail Fund, The Food Trust, Fairmount Park Conservancy, Greensgrow, Tree Philly, and Farm on Florence.
