About the Farm
Background
Mamushi Nature Farm has a rich history rooted in Japanese Nature farming principles. Experts from Japan inspected the farm to ensure compliance with both USDA Organic Standards and the Japanese Nature Farm Standard, which emphasizes spiritual and physical aspects of farming. The farm was initially certified by OCIA International, Inc. to verify adherence to USDA standards before fully embracing Japanese Nature farming methods. The farm's practices were honed during a 3.5-year period in Gotemba, Japan, where the owners learned the spiritual and physical methods of Nature farming.
Practices
Mamushi Nature Farm employs a unique blend of organic and Nature farming techniques that prioritize the healing qualities of food. The farm uses 'Basic Minerals 77 Gold Yellow,' a mineral praised for its ability to increase soil and animal productivity. Their approach integrates spiritual practices, such as Johrei, the 'Healing Art of Japan,' which visitors can learn on-site. The farm's methods surpass USDA organic standards by focusing on the natural and healing aspects of food production. They grow a variety of organic greens, including turnips, collard greens, mustard greens, beet greens, watercress, and French dandelion greens, and also offer USDA-inspected meats.
The Rest
Mamushi Nature Farm offers educational farm tours, providing visitors with the opportunity to breathe fresh air and drink pure limestone well water. They sell organic, grass-fed meat and eggs, as well as wild blackberry and grape leaves for tea and culinary uses. The farm runs a 'Just Crumbs' Non-Profit hunger relief program and plans to develop nature trails in their scenic valley. They are committed to being disability accessible and are seeking community support and donations to further their mission. Additionally, they host a Community Meals Program where visitors can sample farm-grown foods, believed to offer a healing experience.
