About the Farm
Background
Established in 1936 in the Palouse, the farm originally focused on wheat and barley. In 1995, Tom and Cheryl Kammerzell purchased the homestead and transitioned to raising cross-bred steers. By 1997, they introduced Highland cattle, expanding their herd to over 20 animals and producing award-winning show animals. With over 20 years in the Highland cattle business, the farm has built a reputation for high-quality beef and now maintains a waiting list for their products.
Practices
Committed to sustainable farming, the farm emphasizes environmental responsibility, animal welfare, and supporting locally grown foods. The Highland cattle are raised on lush open pastures with cool, clear streams and springs, ensuring a natural and healthy environment. Each animal is tagged or tattooed at birth, with meticulous records kept on their health and well-being from birth to harvest. The beef is dry-aged for a minimum of 10 days, then cut, wrapped, and frozen by a state-certified meat cutting establishment.
The Rest
The farm offers Highland beef twice a year, available by the quarter, half, or whole. Visitors are encouraged to tour the farm to see the practices firsthand. The farm also sells breeding stock and has produced Grand Champion and Reserve Champion animals. Their naturally grown, grass-fed, and grass-finished beef is exclusively available directly from the farm.
