About the Farm
Background
Located in the hills of southern Wayne County, the farm has been in the family for generations, originally consisting of approximately 90 acres of hay and 960 acres of corn, along with a beef cattle herd of about 40 brood cows. The farm stand began in 2001 with pumpkins, cornstalks, and gourds, and has since expanded to include a wider variety of vegetables.
Practices
All crops are grown with conservation in mind, employing no-till farming methods. This approach saves soil, water, and time, reduces herbicide use, conserves soil carbon, and requires much less fuel. The farm occasionally produces maple syrup, depending on the health of the maple trees from the previous year.
The Rest
The farm stand operates on a self-serve basis and is open during daylight hours, seven days a week. The owner works full-time on the grandfather's farm, which may affect availability at the stand.
