About the Farm
Background
McCown Family Farms began as a 4-H project for one of the McCown children and evolved into a small dairy operation. Ward McCown, a Texas Tech University graduate with a degree in soil science, grew up around cattle, while Stacy McCown, a nurse practitioner, always dreamed of owning farm animals. Together with their four children, they have built a family-centered farm that also supports Autism Awareness due to personal connections.
Practices
The farm operates with a focus on sustainable practices, raising Jersey and Jersey-cross cows that are pasture-raised year-round and only confined for milking. The cows' primary diet consists of grass and hay, supplemented with grain, and they are never given growth or milk-enhancing hormones. The farm emphasizes the health benefits of raw milk, including natural probiotics.
The Rest
McCown Family Farms supports local FFA Chapters, 4-H Clubs, and schools in educating youth about land and livestock care. The farm produces raw milk, cream, yogurts, and soap, and is dedicated to providing high-quality dairy products to the local community in New Summerfield, Texas.
