Meadowview Farmers’ Guild & Harvest Table Restaurant

The business began as an extension of the bestselling book 'Animal, Vegetable, Miracle' by Steven Hopp, Barbara Kingsolver, and their daughters. Over the last ten years, it grew to include a restaurant, general store, and a network of over 50 regional farmers, gardeners, and ranchers. The business was known for its commitment to local food movements and community health until it closed on September 18th, 2022, after 15 years of operation.

The farm and restaurant prioritized seasonal produce and pasture-raised meats, avoiding deep fat frying and focusing on foods with a low carbon footprint. They sourced sustainably farmed trout from North Carolina and featured products from over 50 regional farmers. The philosophy centered on investing in the health of the community and the land.

The General Store sold local meats, seasonal produce, gourmet foods, canned goods, and handmade crafts from over 170 local artisans. The Harvest Table Restaurant offered a menu designed around local availability, including regional wines, beers, and hard ciders from Virginia. The business fostered relationships within the community, celebrating Appalachian heritage.
