About the Farm
Background
The farm was purchased by Herbert Warner in 1938, who planted apple trees the following year, transforming it into an orchard. Herbert moved his family to Hiram, and in 1945, his daughter Georgia married Kress Monroe. After selling their dairy, Kress joined Herbert in the orchard business, bringing along his family's maple syrup operation. The farm is now operated by the third generation, Roger Monroe, along with his wife Sue and their three children, making it a four-generation farm.
Practices
The farm emphasizes the quality of its produce, growing approximately 25 varieties of apples, six varieties of peaches, as well as pears, strawberries, cherries, and various fall crops. Maple syrup production continues every spring, with steam often visible from the sugarhouse in February and March.
The Rest
The farm hosts Apple Harvest Festivals on the last Saturday of September and the first two Saturdays of October, offering a day of family fun. Visitors can enjoy picking their own produce, although peaches are not available for pick-your-own. The farm is a place to create family memories, and pets are not allowed due to the Federal Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Produce Safety Rule.
