About the Farm
Background
David Lawson, inspired by his high school experiences and a dream to transform a piece of the Appalachian Mountains, founded the vineyard after convincing his parents to partner with him. The first harvest was in 2004, and the winery opened in 2005. The vineyard is named after a family heirloom rose, and it has grown to include multiple vineyards and a variety of wines, including sparkling wines and hard apple cider.
Practices
The vineyard employs sustainable farming practices, including the use of compost and extensive cover cropping. Several acres are on reclaimed mine land, which has been restored and enriched to create ideal conditions for grape growing. The vineyard also uses roses as early indicators of potential vine diseases, a traditional practice in viticulture.
The Rest
Visitors can enjoy scenic views, picnics, and various events such as the Roses Tour in June and the 'Pick your Own' Concord Grape Festival in September. The vineyard has expanded its facilities to include wedding event spaces and employs a dedicated team for operations and customer service. David Lawson continues to innovate and expand the vineyard's offerings, including experimental plots and new grape varieties.
