About the Farm
Background
The farm maintains a small flock of around 50 cage-free chickens, originally sourced from Murray MacMurray Hatchery in Iowa, supplemented by local feed store purchases and home hatching. The eggs, known for their superior taste, are primarily sold to nearby neighbors due to limited production capacity.
Practices
Chickens are raised without the use of pesticides, and antibiotics are only used in medicated feed during the first few weeks to prevent coccidiosis, unless the chicks are vaccinated. Adult chickens thrive on an all-grain feed from the local feed store. Egg production varies seasonally, peaking in spring and fall and decreasing in midsummer and winter.
The Rest
The farm offers a mix of egg colors and sizes, including large brown, blue, and white eggs, which customers report as having a much better taste compared to those from large retailers.
