About the Farm

Background

Located northwest of Atlanta, this farm is a family-run operation spanning three generations of the Hammonds family. The foundation of the farm is a small herd of Jersey cows, which are milked twice daily. Over the years, the farm has expanded its offerings to include eggs, garden produce, herbs, broiler chickens, beef, pork, honey, cheese, soap, skin care products, and baked goods. The farm has a strong commitment to producing wholesome, local food.

Practices

The farm adheres to a strict 100% grass-fed policy for their Jersey cows, which graze on pastures for 8-9 months of the year and are rotated twice daily to fresh paddocks. The cows also have access to fresh, spring water from Tawana Springs, which is filtered to remove chlorine. Organic fish emulsion, sea salt, and Coral Calcium are used as soil amendments, and barnyard litter is spread on the fields to enrich the soil. During the winter months, cows are housed in a large dairy barn with weekly bedding additions to keep them clean and comfortable. The farm uses a Co-pulsation milking system to ensure cow comfort and reduce mastitis. Chickens are raised on organic, non-GMO, soy-free feed and are either free-ranging or housed in portable chicken tractors, which are moved daily to provide fresh forage and protection from predators. The farm also employs Best Nest Boxes to keep eggs clean and reduce the need for extensive washing.

The Rest

The farm sells its products directly from an on-farm store, offering raw milk in 1/2 gallon glass jars, among other items. They also breed their Jersey cows for A2A2 milk, which is easier to digest for some people. The farm's chickens are raised for both meat and eggs, with a focus on flavor and health. The farm emphasizes the importance of producing fresh, wholesome food and invites visitors to learn more through their website and Instagram.
