About the Farm
Background
David Whittaker's journey into farming began at age 13 with a flock of ducks, which he expanded to include chickens for eggs and meat. By 18, he was supplying meat chickens to a co-op, solidifying the farm's transition into a small business. Influenced by the documentary Food Inc. and Joel Salatin's work, David, along with his father Brian's agricultural expertise, prioritized sustainable farming practices. Over the years, the farm has grown and diversified, continually evolving to improve efficiency and product quality.
Practices
The farm employs regenerative agriculture techniques, rotating poultry daily to fresh grass in movable shelters known as chicken tractors. Poultry are supplemented with non-GMO, corn- and soy-free feed. This method not only ensures the health and well-being of the animals but also enhances soil fertility and ecosystem balance. The farm's commitment to sustainable practices is evident in their diverse offerings, which include pastured pork and grass-fed beef, all raised with a focus on land stewardship and animal welfare.
The Rest
Products can be purchased directly from the farm or through various local retailers and restaurants. The farm also offers WSDA poultry processing, livestock feed, and day-old chicks. David Whittaker, who holds an AA degree in Agribusiness, manages daily operations, while his wife Faith handles administration and runs the farm store. The farm is known for its high-quality meats and eggs, praised by customers for their superior taste and health benefits.
