About the Farm
Background
Rooted in the agricultural traditions of Japan and Mexico, the farm is a testament to the knowledge and practices brought by first and second-generation immigrants. Certified organic by CCOF since 2012, the farm has grown to be known for its vibrant biodiversity and commitment to environmental stewardship.
Practices
The farm employs agroecological farming practices that emphasize biodiversity, soil health, and water conservation. By cultivating over 50 different crops, the farm creates a habitat for native insects and wildlife, fostering a thriving ecosystem. Dry farming techniques are used to enhance flavor and reduce water usage. The farm's organic certification is seen as a baseline, with efforts extending beyond to nurture ecological balance.
The Rest
The farm operates with a horizontal structure, promoting from within and sharing profits at the season's end. Community engagement is a cornerstone, with partnerships to deliver fresh produce to essential workers, low-income neighbors, shelters, and food banks. CSA members can donate their boxes, and the farm accepts EBT and offers sliding-scale payments. The farm's produce is harvested and delivered within 24 hours to ensure freshness for CSA members across the Bay Area.
