About the Farm
Background
Plough in the Stars Farm was created in 2010, starting in the backyard garden of the founder's childhood home. It expanded into four garden plots along Argilla and Northgate Road, each with its own micro-climate. The farm was known for producing high-quality vegetables and was part of the vibrant local food scene on the North Shore. After eight years, the farm ceased operations in 2017, but its legacy continues through the founder's work with Nourishing the North Shore.
Practices
The farm focused on ecologically sustainable methods to produce the highest quality vegetables. The founder's early exposure to gardening and farming, combined with experience gained at Brookfield Farm, Seeds of Solidarity, and First Light Farm, informed the farm's practices. The farm's adaptability to different micro-climates allowed it to thrive despite changing weather conditions.
The Rest
The farm's produce was available at the Newburyport Farmer's Market and local restaurants such as The Market and Short and Main. Mike, a key figure at the farm, was known for his versatility and continued to support the farm's mission even after its closure. The founder now works with Nourishing the North Shore to increase access to healthy, local produce in the region.
