About the Farm
Background
Established in 2014 on 21 acres of forested land, the farm began with the vision of transforming the landscape using pigs as natural bulldozers to develop perennial seeds into forested pastures. Over the years, they have expanded their operations to include a breeding program for heritage hogs, layer hens, Cornish hens, Freedom Rangers, ducks, and pastured rabbits.
Practices
The farm employs rotational grazing to ensure optimal land disturbance and fresh grazing areas for their animals. Pigs are used to naturally clear land and are supplemented with non-GMO peanuts, various grains, and organically grown fruits and vegetables. Heritage hogs are bred on-site, while non-GMO feeder pigs are raised to size and sold via Hog Shares. Layer hens are fed non-GMO feed from their first bites as chicks. Ducks are raised for eggs and can also be raised for meat. Pastured rabbits are a product of a breeder pair from Polyface Farms.
The Rest
The farm is preparing for a CSA program, with gardens started in anticipation of accepting orders in Winter 2015 for a Summer 2016 launch.
