About the Farm
Background
Operating since 1997 on Los Poblanos Fields Open Space in Albuquerque, New Mexico, this land-based 501(c)3 non-profit organization has been dedicated to providing diverse and underserved communities with equitable access to urban farmland and education in sustainable agriculture. Known for its commitment to food justice, biodiversity, and climate resilience, the farm has become a cornerstone of the local community, offering a variety of programs and events that engage and educate.
Practices
The farm employs organic and biodynamic methods, ensuring that all farming activities are pesticide-free. Regenerative growing methods are emphasized, particularly in the community garden and microfarm programs. The farm also participates in neighborhood composting, collecting garden and kitchen waste to enrich the soil. These practices reflect a deep respect for the land and a commitment to sustainable agriculture.
The Rest
The farm offers a CSA, classes, volunteer and apprenticeship opportunities, and a fall corn maze. Community garden space is available, and the farm is developing a local network of like-minded organizations to provide fresh food and opportunities for self-reliance for underserved populations. Annual events such as the Lavender Festival and Maize Maze Fall Festival are highlights, drawing visitors from across the region.
