About the Farm
Background
Rockin' S Grassfed Beef / Sogno Ranch began its transformation in 1999 after the land had been neglected and overgrazed. Over the years, the ranch has restored native grasses and developed a sustainable environment for raising Beefalo and cattle. The ranch faced a 10-year drought, which delayed grazing for nearly 15 years. They have worked with the NRCS to participate in a Conservation Program to protect the banks of a creek running through the property.
Practices
The ranch employs free-range grazing and ensures a low-stress environment for the herd. They avoid using growth implants, soy, corn silage, grains, or antibiotics, even in the treats used to call the animals. Selective land clearing is practiced to maintain natural habitats and provide shade. Water management is crucial, with additional stock tanks built to address the challenges of the Texas climate. Some mesquite trees are preserved as they are a vital pollen source for honey bees.
The Rest
The Beefalo raised on the ranch are a registered breed known for their heart-healthy qualities and adaptability to both heat and cold. The ranch's family can easily call the herd to check on their health. The meat is tender and similar to bison, combining the best traits of buffalo and cattle. The ranch aims to provide quality meat raised with care and dignity, from pasture to plate.
