About the Farm
Background
Settled in 1791, the farm has transitioned through various ownerships, including the Scott and Holbrook families, who expanded and diversified it in the 20th century. The orchards, planted in 1911, became the farm's main focus. In 1995, Fred Holbrook III gifted the property to The Landmark Trust USA. The farm is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has been in active cultivation since its inception.
Practices
The farm employs biological and cultural methods to manage its orchards, producing healthy, high-quality fruits. Approximately 80% of the crop stays within 100 miles of the farm. The fruit is hand-picked and hand-packed onsite, with a dedicated staff that includes long-term local employees and Jamaican guest workers. The farm is powered by 165 solar panels and is a Certified B Corporation, meeting rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.
The Rest
The farm features 130 varieties of heirloom apples and other fruits, a seasonal Farm Market, and the Apple Barn Event Center. It is a popular wedding venue surrounded by historic vacation rentals. The Stone Trust showcases dry-stone wall installations. The farm offers workshops on pruning, grafting, baking, and hard cider making, as well as annual events like the Fruit Tree & Perennial Sale and Heirloom Apple Days. The Farm Market, open from September 1 until the day before Thanksgiving, offers a variety of local products.
