About the Farm
Background
Established in 1999 as a CSA farm, the family-owned farm in Saline County, Missouri, has been chemical-free since 1994 and certified organic since 2004. The land has been in the family since 1929, with a commitment to organic farming methods long before certification. The farm is known for its dedication to producing high-quality, chemical-free produce and eggs, serving the Kansas City Metro area, Columbia, MO, and local markets.
Practices
The farm adheres strictly to organic farming principles, avoiding chemically synthesized pesticides and fertilizers, and never using genetically modified seeds or plants. They limit even low-impact chemical inputs and refrain from using hormones or antibiotics on their chickens. The farm's philosophy centers on producing food in a way that maintains the health and vigor of the crops without depleting or poisoning the environment. They are particularly mindful of the needs of chemically-sensitive individuals.
The Rest
The farm's produce and eggs are available through their CSA program, at farmers markets, and in some local restaurants and stores. CSA members can receive boxes delivered to various locations or pick them up on the farm, with an option to work as payment for a share. The farm welcomes on-farm visits, internships, and volunteer opportunities. They are a regular presence at the Blue Springs Farmers Market and Columbia Downtown Farmers Market. The farm's legacy includes the late Jim Thomas, Sr., whose dedication to farming and the farmers market is fondly remembered by the community.
