About the Farm
Background
Situated on 100 acres of leased and owned land in Sherborn, MA, the farm is committed to reclaiming and restoring historic farmland as a community resource. The Hodson-Walker family, who have lived in Sherborn for over 20 years, purchased the farm with a vision to produce certified organic, locally grown produce. Since the beginning of the 2012 season, Abel Clark and Laura Raney have managed the farm's operations and business relationships, respectively.
Practices
The farm employs sustainable farming practices to ensure healthy soil, nutritious crops, and well-fed consumers. They take the extra step of going through the rigorous organic certification process to comply with USDA Organic Regulations. The land is treated with respect, using cover crops to prevent erosion and replenish soil nutrients. The farm relies on handwork and small machinery, making it more energy-efficient and reducing the energy expended in distribution.
The Rest
The farm offers ultra-fresh, seasonal, and local produce without wax coatings, chemical ripening agents, or preservatives. Customers can develop a relationship with the farmers and learn more about food storage and preparation. The farm also provides exposure to new vegetables and cooking methods, which can encourage kids to try and enjoy fresh produce.
