About the Farm
Background
Sarah Lindblom, originally from Plymouth, MN, has been cultivating produce on this land since 2015. With experience on organic farms in Georgia and North Dakota, she brought her expertise to Solar Fresh Produce. Over the years, the farm became known for its CSA program, which ran successfully until 2021. Sarah is also a board member of the Sustainable Farming Association Crow River Chapter and works as an Organic Certification Specialist/Inspector at MCIA in St. Paul, MN.
Practices
The farm employs indigenous farming practices to create a balanced ecosystem. Techniques include creating beneficial insect habitats for pest control, mulching, and cover cropping to reduce weeds and conserve water. Biodynamic preparations, perennial plantings, crop rotation, companion planting, and the use of non-GMO, heirloom, and organic seeds are integral to the farm's methods. On-farm produced chicken manure is used to enrich the soil, and biodiversity is actively promoted. The soil health principles serve as a framework to maintain a living and balanced ecosystem.
The Rest
Produce from the farm can be found at the roadside stand on weekends and select weekdays. Special orders can be arranged by contacting Sarah directly. The farm also grows herbs and flowers and keeps bees and chickens. Sarah continues to engage with the local food community through her work and contributions to sustainable farming practices.
