About the Farm
Background
Located in the heart of Illinois, South Pork Ranch has become a notable name in organic farming, particularly for its dedication to raising Red Wattle Heritage Hogs, a breed currently on the critically endangered list according to the American Breeds Livestock Conservancy. As one of only three breeders of this special hog in Illinois, the farm has carved out a niche in the organic meat market.
Practices
The farm's dairy, beef, and hog production is certified organic by MOSA. All cows are USDA Certified 100% Grass Fed, hormone and antibiotic-free. The hogs are pasture-raised without hormones or antibiotics and are fed certified organic milk and grain. This approach ensures that the animals are raised in a natural and healthy environment, promoting both animal welfare and ecological balance.
The Rest
The farm offers beef by the whole, half, and quarter carcass, and pork by the whole and half carcass. Smaller cuts of meat, handmade all-natural soap, raw honey, organic flours, and cage-free eggs are available in the on-site farm store, which is open Monday through Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm. Raw milk is available year-round for $6 a gallon, but customers must bring their own container and make an appointment to purchase.
