About the Farm
Background
SP Ranches sprouted from the Staggs family's love for animals, a passion for the outdoors, and a desire to provide locals with healthy alternatives to generic grocery store meats. The ranch got started back in 2012 with 5 Black Angus heifers on 10 acres. In 2014, South Poll cattle were added to the herd, and by 2015, the small herd moved to their new permanent home, which is the SP Ranches everyone knows today. Later that year, 10 Heritage Tamworth Pigs were introduced to the ranch.
Practices
Raising animals on a grass fed lifestyle through paddock grazing has been central to the ranch's approach, benefiting the land, the animals, and the consumers. The South Poll cattle, known for their medium frame and ability to thrive in the Texas heat, are raised on grass. The Heritage Tamworth Pigs are pastured and their diet is supplemented with Non-GMO Hugelland Feed, emphasizing their natural foraging behaviors and outstanding mothering instincts.
The Rest
The ranch offers registered and non-registered Tamworth piglets for sale, known as the bacon breed for their quality meat.
