About the Farm
Background
Rob and Lucy Wood established Spoutwood Farm in 1983, inspired by the harmony and beauty of the rolling hills of southern York County, PA. Initially a dried flower and herb farm, Spoutwood began offering classes and workshops in 1988. The farm published 'The Art of Dried Flowers' in 1991 and launched the May Day Fairie Festival the same year, which became the largest faerie festival in the world. Spoutwood also initiated the first CSA in the Baltimore and York County areas in 1996, peaking at 125 members. The farm received the Outstanding Ag Industry Award from the York County AgriBusiness Council in 2009. Today, Spoutwood Farm Center continues as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit growing organic food and promoting a balanced partnership with the natural world.
Practices
Spoutwood Farm emphasizes living in harmony with nature and safeguarding environmental quality. The farm makes efficient use of non-renewable and on-farm resources while growing food to meet human needs in an economically viable way. The land surrounding the food garden is cared for to promote biodiversity and natural cycles.
The Rest
Spoutwood Farm offers various internship and apprenticeship opportunities, allowing individuals to work closely with the Farm Manager and participate in festivals and other activities. The farm also hosts the May Day Faerie Festival, celebrating the spirit of Spoutwood and the magic of nature. The festival will be held at Rocky Point Park in 2024. Spoutwood Farm Center remains a resource for those interested in natural farming methods and continues to advocate for sustainable partnerships with nature.
