About the Farm
Background
Many hands have built this farm together over the years. Operated by Betsy Allister and Andrew Ehrmann, along with their children and a dedicated farm crew, the farm was transformed from 20 acres of chemically-depleted corn and soybeans into a vibrant home buzzing with diverse plant, microbial, and animal life. Betsy and Andrew, who met at Macalester College, started the farm in 2010 after working on other farms. Their backgrounds in environmental studies, carpentry, writing, and education have found a shared home in farming.
Practices
The farm employs sustainable and chemical-free practices, focusing on soil health through the addition of compost, minerals, kelp, and mycorrhizal fungi. Hundreds of trees have been planted, and acres of prairie species have been established. The farm is committed to growing nutrient-dense produce and farming in harmony with nature to heal both the soil and the planet.
The Rest
The farm serves as a community gathering spot and donates over 10,000 lbs of produce to area food shelves each year. They partner with local organizations to offer free CSA shares and accept SNAP/EBT for payments. Discounts and installment plans are available for those under financial hardship, and 'working share' memberships are offered.
