About the Farm

Background

Star Gazing Farm was established in 2002 on 4 acres of rolling hills in Western Montgomery County, Maryland. It was founded with the mission of providing a permanent home for abused, stray, and unwanted farm animals. Over the years, it has become a 501(c)3 organization, known for its compassionate care and community outreach. The farm collaborates with animal control and other agencies to place unwanted farm animals in responsible homes and sanctuaries.

Practices

The farm emphasizes humane treatment and care of all its residents, ensuring they receive the love and attention they deserve. They offer professional shearing services for sheep, goats, llamas, and alpacas, including hoof and tooth trimming. The farm also provides year-round herd health assistance, including hoof care, deworming, and overall management. Their 'Bunny Motel' offers a safe, climate-controlled environment for rabbits and other small animals, promoting the idea that these creatures are companions deserving of proper care.

The Rest

Star Gazing Farm offers a variety of products and services, including wool and alpaca products, composted manure, and handmade items like catnip toys, wool cat toys, and hand-woven baskets. They run a work and learn program for local youth, teaching them basic farming techniques and humane animal handling. The farm is open by appointment or during festival days, and they welcome volunteers, holding orientations approximately once a month.
