About the Farm
Background
Stowe Farm, originally a dairy farm milking 63 head of cattle, has been transformed over generations into an equestrian farm with 50 horses. The farm's history dates back to Ithamer Stow, who purchased the land in West Millbury, Massachusetts, in the early 19th century. Over the years, the farm has seen significant changes, including a shift from dairy farming to apple growing under George Brigham Stowe. The farm has remained in the Stowe family for generations, with each successor contributing to its growth and adaptation.
Practices
Stowe Farm practices agri-tourism, inviting visitors to engage with the land through activities like apple picking and interacting with barnyard animals. The farm's transition from dairy to equestrian and agricultural focus reflects a deep respect for the land and a commitment to adapting to changing times. The 'pick your own' apple program allows the community to connect directly with the farm's produce.
The Rest
Stowe Farm offers a variety of family-friendly activities, including a festive cow train and scenic views of horses grazing in the fields. The farm opens the apple harvest season each year the weekend after Labor Day, providing a memorable experience for visitors of all ages. The farm also produces pumpkins, fresh vegetables, and Christmas trees.
