About the Farm
Background
In the fall of 2008, a family, frustrated with the quality of supermarket apples, traveled to an out-of-state orchard to pick fresh fruit. Inspired by their experience and a historical article about the 'Apple King of Kansas,' they planted 12 apple trees on their farm in Miami County, Kansas, in the spring of 2009. By the fall of that year, they had planted 200 apple trees and 200 peach trees the following spring. The orchard has since expanded to include over 1,500 trees and a u-pick section designed for families.
Practices
The orchard utilizes high-density plantings for their trees, allowing for efficient use of space and resources. They have also implemented a revolutionary trellis system for their 15,000 square feet of blackberries and installed an orchard-wide irrigation system to ensure optimal growing conditions.
The Rest
Visitors can enjoy a family-friendly u-pick experience with over 3,700 feet of trees. The orchard participates in the Overland Park Farmers Market, offering their fresh produce directly to the community.
