About the Farm
Background
Located in Loudoun County, Virginia, Sunny Knoll EcoFarm is known for its commitment to heritage breeds and heirloom plants. The farm is family owned and operated, producing artisanal food and quality breeding stock. Over the years, they have built a reputation for providing raw milk through a cow share program and maintaining a diverse collection of plants and animals that complement each other.
Practices
The farm employs rotational grazing to manage pastures and improve the health of their watershed. Cows have access to pasture year-round and are fed hay in the winter, avoiding grain and soy entirely. Laying hens free-range on pasture and are never confined, even at night, and are fed a diet free of grain, soy, corn, GMOs, and gluten. Heritage breed Narragansett turkeys also range widely on spacious pastures and are soy-free. The farm uses no synthetic herbicides, pesticides, or fertilizers, adhering to or exceeding organic standards despite not being certified organic.
The Rest
Products are available for pickup directly from the farm. The farm also participates in government programs to enhance environmental stewardship and offers tours, consulting, and a variety of other services. Their ecofarm design ensures minimal inputs by fostering a symbiotic relationship between plants and animals.
