About the Farm
Background
The business began as organic gardeners and composters, eventually transitioning into vermicomposting and worm raising. Initially focused on decreasing their impact on the local waste stream and enhancing their garden beds, they discovered that Red Wiggler worms could create rich compost much faster than traditional methods. This led to impressive improvements in lawn and garden health, prompting them to specialize in producing and selling worm castings and related products.
Practices
The business custom feeds a diverse mix of natural vegetative waste to their worms, avoiding unsustainable and antimicrobial food sources like peat moss. Their worm castings are tested by a SoilFoodWeb-approved laboratory to ensure high diversity and mass of soil biology and nutrient cycling potential. The castings are harvested weekly, kept moist and alive, and used in their own organic yard and vegetable production to maintain the highest quality. They also brew an all-natural vermicompost tea, Worm Wine (TM), rich in beneficial soil microbes, nutrients, plant hormones, and acids.
The Rest
The business offers ongoing support and education to customers, including year-round classes on vermicomposting. They sell composting worms, worm castings, worm tea, soil amendments, worm bins, and books. Customers can also book a speaker or take a tour of the facility. Their commitment to quality ensures that their products meet the premium standard for nutrient value and soil biology.
