About the Farm
Background
For four generations, the Texley Family has made their life on a hilly stretch of land in Boone County, North Eastern Nebraska. Amidst endless cornfields, this place stands as an island home with smaller fields marked by trees and fence lines, and a patchwork of grassland pasture and hay crops. In 2015, Andrew, the fourth generation, returned to farm with his father and grandfather, managing cattle and raising high-quality chicken, pork, and dairy products. Following the deaths of his father and grandfather in 2021 and 2022, Andrew took on the full responsibility of the farm, continuing to plant crops and raise livestock despite numerous challenges.
Practices
During the grazing season, the cows are rotationally grazed on pasture and fed a basic grain ration milled on the farm. In winter, they are managed on deep bedding, fed alfalfa, and brought into the barn during inclement weather. The farm also raises pasture-raised chicken, milk-fed pork, holiday turkeys, and grass-fed beef. The interconnectedness of the land and livestock is evident in their practices, ensuring the health of the soil and the animals.
The Rest
Milk is available for purchase by appointment, with most supporters receiving it through a seasonal herdshare. Raw milk pick-up is every Wednesday night at The Stirred Pot café in Albion. Eggs, chicken, seasonal produce, and orders for pork and beef are also available at this location. The farm encourages organizing community raw milk pick-ups for those living in different areas. Andrew is committed to working with customers to get the food they need, valuing the support and good wishes from the community.
