About the Farm
Background
Formed in June 2014, the Plantation Park Heights Urban Farm emerged from a group of Caribbean/American citizens' desire to positively impact the lives of young adults in their community. After consultations with other community groups, Richie Francis and the team decided to form partnerships and share resources to achieve common goals. The farm has since become a Black-owned haven in Baltimore, striving toward generational wealth and addressing food security issues.
Practices
The farm emphasizes sustainable agriculture, growing a variety of organic fruits, vegetables, and herbs in rich soil. It serves as a training ground for beginner farmers and provides resources to legacy farmers. The philosophy centers on creating food security and offering cleaner, greener foods to the community, promoting a healthier quality of life.
The Rest
Visitors are welcomed to immerse themselves in the beauty of nature, learn about urban agriculture, and participate in farm-to-table activities. The farm is a vibrant community space where families gather over fresh, healthy food, and young farmers blossom. The team includes dedicated individuals like Farmer Chippy, who founded the farm with a vision of spreading love and supporting the community, and other key members who contribute to various aspects of the farm's operations.
