The Talking Farm

Founded as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation, the organization operates the Howard Street Farm, a 2.5-acre urban farm in Skokie. Known for its commitment to sustainable green development and preservation of open spaces, it distributes locally-grown vegetables through farmers’ markets, food pantries, a farm membership program, and local restaurants.

The farm employs sustainable agricultural practices to grow vegetables, fruit, and herbs. It emphasizes biodiversity, urban agriculture, and sustainability through hands-on learning opportunities. The farm's operations are supported by volunteers, community service groups, faith organizations, corporations, interns, and local partnerships.

The farm offers various programs including educational initiatives, internships, certifications, and volunteer opportunities. It also hosts farm dinners, field trips, and workdays, and sells produce at local farmers' markets and to CSA members, restaurants, and retailers.
