About the Farm
Background
Established in December 2006, the farm was named after their first Highland Steer, Thunder, and a big beautiful Oak tree. Thunder arrived on May 1, 2010, followed by Veronica and Victoria in June. Veronica, a red Highland, gave birth to the farm's first calf, Zeva, who unexpectedly had a white face due to an accidental encounter with a young Hereford bull. Victoria, a yellow Highland, gave birth to the first Highland bull calf, Xerox, in August 2010. In 2022, the farm transitioned to a Private Member Association and changed its name to Thundering Oak.
Practices
The farm employs organic practices to raise their diverse array of animals, including grass-fed Highland Cattle, Jersey Cows, Nubian Goats, Chickens, Ducks, and Pigs. They offer raw milk herd shares and farm-fresh eggs, ensuring all products are antibiotic and hormone-free. The cow herd, which includes Jersey cows, Guernseys, and Shorthorns, is primarily A2/A2 milk-producing, with a commitment to reaching 100% A2/A2 milk.
The Rest
Thundering Oak operates as a Private Member Association, requiring membership to access products and services. They offer farm tours and the opportunity to meet the animals. Membership levels include Full and Limited, with herd share members receiving raw milk packaged in glass jars. The farm emphasizes the importance of clean and dry jar returns, charging a fee for jars deemed unsafe to fill.
