About the Farm
Background
Founded by Troy and Cindy Dickens, the farm is located in Middleboro, MA, on 1.5 acres within the historic Black Brook Ranch. Troy and Cindy both transitioned from careers in environmental science and education, respectively, to full-time farming, driven by their passion for self-sufficiency and community nourishment.
Practices
The farm operates on principles of sustainable living and land stewardship, focusing on no-spray, zero pesticide methods. They avoid synthetic fertilizers, instead relying on soil health, quality compost, and proactive management. Limited soil disturbance is a key practice, with a 'no-till' policy whenever possible. The farm also responsibly sources wood for their handcrafted woodenware from local forests and the farm itself.
The Rest
In addition to vegetables and herbs, the farm produces hand-carved wooden utensils and natural herbal care products, emphasizing the use of local and organic ingredients. They also offer 100% real wool yarn from their Dorset Cross sheep, processed locally. The farm's produce can be found at their farmstand, Blue Hill Co-op, and Blue Hill Farmers' Market.
