About the Farm
Background
Located in Brookfield, IL, Tree City Growers has established itself as a small urban farm and market garden. Known for its focus on micro-greens, leaf vegetables, and root crops, the farm has become a local staple for fresh, high-quality produce.
Practices
Tree City Growers employs regenerative urban agriculture techniques, including organic methods (though not certified), bokashi composting, and vermicomposting. These practices not only enhance soil health but also contribute to a closed-loop system that minimizes waste and maximizes nutrient cycling.
The Rest
The farm currently offers a variety of micro-greens such as pea, sunflower, radish, hard red wheat grass, and soft wheat grass at $2 per ounce. Available vegetables include red baby beets and golden baby beets at $3 for a 4-ounce bunch, Swiss chard at $3 for a 5-ounce bag or 2 for $5, and green onions at $2 for a 4-ounce bunch. Additionally, they are testing small batches of red radish, broccoli, red beet, and basil microgreens for future production.
