About the Farm
Background
Walnut Hollow Ranch, operated by Charlie Kissling, has gained recognition for its high-quality, all natural, grass-fed beef. The ranch was awarded the 2014 Area 1 Conservation Farm Family of the Year for outstanding accomplishments in the conservation of natural resources. It is also the first business in Clay County to receive recognition from the NC Department of Environmental Quality through the NC Green Travel Program.
Practices
The ranch raises Black Angus cattle without hormones or antibiotics, adhering to the highest animal welfare standards. The cattle are pastured in the temperate region of the Appalachian Mountains, ensuring they are raised in harmony with nature. Progressive breeding methods are employed to produce tender, high-quality beef. Conservation practices are implemented to protect natural resources, water quality, and the environment. The ranch also follows an energy reduction program, water conservation program, and efforts to protect air quality and reduce solid waste.
The Rest
Walnut Hollow Ranch offers farm tours year-round, where visitors can learn about sustainable management of productive pastures, genetics, and animal husbandry. The ranch also provides RV and tent camping, farm stays, and a farm lodge for guests. It is a premier destination in Hayesville, NC, and recognized as the #1 destination on TripAdvisor.
