About the Farm
Background
We Grow is a small-scale, family farm in northern Taylor County. The farm is run by a young family, with Rebecca as the chief gardener and Eric handling the soil preparation. Their children, Gus and Dene, assist with seeding and harvesting. The farm relies on a community of volunteers and workers to help with the heavy lifting, making it a true community-supported venture.
Practices
We Grow employs sustainable agriculture techniques that avoid the use of chemicals. Crop rotation is carefully planned to reduce disease and pest infestations while preventing soil nutrient depletion. Annual cover crops are planted to give the soil a rest, prevent erosion, and improve fertility. The farm uses only organic certified, non-GMO seeds and practices open-pollination to save seeds from select varieties. Animal manures are composted and used to maximize soil fertility. No-till practices are employed to reduce soil disturbance and prevent weed seed germination.
The Rest
We Grow offers various CSA share options that allow consumers to pre-purchase shares of produce, providing the farm with early-season capital. The farm also serves as an education center, workplace, and social hub, engaging the community in efforts to improve local living conditions through sustainable farming and social betterment. Additionally, the farm sells heritage breed pastured pork and handmade soaps, and participates in local farmers markets.
