About the Farm

Background

Founded by Liz and Phil Smith in Forest Grove, Oregon in 1992, the farm began with a single greenhouse and a small plot of land. Initially, they grew organic vegetable starts and sold them at a local farmer’s market. Over time, they expanded their operations to include eighteen greenhouses and began selling produce to restaurants and food stores in the Portland metro area. Today, they are known for their roasted chili peppers and a wide variety of certified organic herb and vegetable starts.

Practices

The farm employs organic growing practices, utilizing recycled greenhouse structures and focusing on environmentally friendly methods. Their greenhouses allow for the production of a diverse range of certified organic herb and vegetable starts, as well as sustainably grown flowering bedding plants. The emphasis is on wholesome, organic growing techniques that are both planet-friendly and effective.

The Rest

The farm markets its products under the name 'PlanetWise Plants' and is particularly known for its roasted chili peppers, which are sold at farmers’ markets from late summer through fall. They also offer bulk boxes of various chili pepper varieties and have a seasonal hot sauce called 'Spooky Sauce'.
